The meticulously-restored Wentworth Mansion exemplifies grandeur with its twelve-foot
ceilings, 21 spacious rooms and suites, original hand-carved marble fireplaces, Italian crystal chandeliers, and Tiffany glass, but it is its gracious hospitality, luxurious amenities, and attention to detail that makes it Bucket List Publications’s Hotel of the Year!
Before you even enter your room, you can enjoy a complimentary bourbon from the honor bar or wine in the sunroom. If alcohol is not your thing, they also have fresh lemonade in Harleston Parlor. You can enjoy it all on the rooftop cupola or from your own whirlpool tub, which might not even be the first thing you notice as you walk into your suite.
Once the bedrooms of the family that built the Mansion, now an elegant escape for guests from around the world. Each mansion guest room is unique both in size and design. As we walked into out finely-finished luxury suite, we noticed the turned-down king-size bed, an expansive bathroom with walk-in shower, an over-sized whirlpool tub, and an original gas fireplace. Although noteworthy, all of those things could be found in several hotels around the world, but what stood out was the locally-made chocolates placed on the bed, the hand-written note next to the bottle of wine and wine glasses on the table, the refreshments in the fridge, and the relaxing music from the CD player. Even the toilet paper was folded in the corners and hand-pressed with the Wentworth Mansion logo. After-all, its the specifics that make a hotel grand.
Exceptional days begin with a delicious breakfast and exceptional hotels offer it complimentary. The restaurant, Circa 1886, held as much splendor as the suites and the complimentary breakfast was certainly a step above the typical continental style found at other accommodations. A very detailed menu, with items you won’t get anywhere else, made my mouth water. We started with local, fresh fruits and orange juice and followed it up with pancakes, bacon, sausage, and Frittata. The service was fit for royalty without being stuffy and Athena, as well as other children, were graciously welcome.
24-hour concierge service guaranteed that if we needed anything, day or night, they would be there. Greeted at the door with a friendly smile and a helping hand, we felt welcome into the mansion as if it was a family home.
They may be a historic Charleston hotel, but they live in modern times and provide complimentary wireless Internet access in all guest rooms and common areas. Free internet may not be on everyone’s list of top things a hotel can offer, but as a writer and daily blogger, its right up there with a bed for me.
Before leaving, we expected to pay for parking, but we were pleasantly surprised to find out that even that was complimentary.
Their promise is that whether you’re in your room or relaxing around the Mansion, you’ll feel exceptionally cared for. Well done, Wentworth Mansion! You’ve captivated us and we look forward to visiting again soon.

You have traveled much more than I have, and this place looks beautiful (even folding the corners of the toilet paper). Have you ever stayed at the Broadmoor hotel in Colorado Springs? If so, how did it compare to the Wentworth? — The Broadmoor is the only elegant hotel I have been in so far because not much fits in the budget of a graduate student!
I haven’t stayed there, but I’m going to look into it.
I’ve stayed everywhere from campgrounds, cars, motels, 1-star hotels, to five-diamond resorts and none have paid such attention to the little things as Wentworth Mansion.
It wasn’t that long ago that I was a struggling student living on hot dogs and Kraft Dinner. I’m sure you’ll have lots of unique experiences at hotels in your life
May the world be at your doorstep,

You say you used to live on hot dogs and Kraft Dinner like it’s a bad thing… Ha ha.
I lived in Colorado Springs for many years and drove by the Broadmoor on the way to the zoo but never stayed there lol. Beautiful looking place though!
I have only been in the Broadmoor when my aunt stayed there for a weekend. So I have not actually stayed there, but my aunt did.
I graduated with a B.A. from UCCS (University of Colorado at Colorado Springs).
I remember the Broadmoor ginderbread house displays during Christmas. One year they did maybe a 20-foot ginderbread sculpture of the curling mountain from “”The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.” Amazing place
I have to say, the Dove advertisement at the bottom of all your posts is really incredible. I enjoyed watching it as much as I enjoy reading your posts. That cinnamon roll looks delicious, by the way.
Great photos and location.
I’m adding this to my bucket list!
I have stayed at Wentworth Mansion and I still remember it as one of the best vacations of my life. While other small hotels might make you feel cramped in with other guests I really felt like we were the only family in a large private home. Amazing levels of detail and service. The restaurant Circa is also not to be missed! How charming that the tables are in converted “stalls” of the carriage house. Everything was so elegant and I hope to return in the near future!
Lesley, I always enjoy your posts … and your pictures are fantastic, as usual. Those photos of that gorgeous food made my mouth water as well. Thanks for sharing!
oh my gosh that sounds amazing!!!
My husband and I have stayed here and would gladly return-the hospitality was truly over the top and you did feel as if you were staying at a home. Kudos to all the staff who work to make it a truly wonderful experience.
Great minds think alike, Lesley! I’m just about to post a blog article about the importance of attention to detail in writing. I hope you check it out. I always notice when you like my posts
I stayed in that exact room! Ahhh, your pictures brought back some lovely memories of a birthday weekend. Complimentary champagne, a card and flowers from the concierge. The best hotel I’ve ever stayed in.
Ahh this looks like heaven!
The rooms look amazing and the food shots are making my mouth water.
WOW. I mean WOW. That’s an amazing place to stay, and I have NEVER seen such an amazing complimentary breakfast! It’s beautiful!
Sweet little hut, really
your photo of the stairs is very creative.
It really looks like a wonderful place to stay and so beautiful!
This is only 2 hours from where I live. I need to try go here! Thanks for the tip.
Lesley, I couldn’t have described our stay there yesterday afternoon til this morning any better.
Very nice, thank you for sharing your remarkable adventures.
I simply MUST stay in this marvelous “Old South” hotel before I die! My ancestors, Byrds and Wentworths, came from South Carolina to Mississippi during the cotton boom of the 1840′s.
This place sounds amazing. I tagged you in a post. I hope you can participate.

What a fantastic place
Very beautiful Hotel. I like your picture of the steps up to the cupola. Did you happen to capture a shot of the stone steps on the outside. I am imagining looking up the stairs at the door to the mansion.
How amazing! I love historic homes! We recently went to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC on our honeymoon. It’s a beautiful location if you get a chance to go.
Ditto on the Biltmore Estate! I have toured the Estate, Winery and Grounds, but have not stayed there. Congrats on honeymoon choice. Still on my bucket-list!
Asheville in general is one of my favorite places.

Beautiful! Your photography plus well-articulated descriptions make me feel like I was just in the Carolinas enjoying some fresh squeezed lemonade on the cupola. Thanks for sharing!
