Los Angeles, CA – January 28, 2013 - My Destination, a global travel resource powered byBucket List Contest a community of local experts, unleashed travel’s Biggest, Baddest, Bucket List offering one lucky person the prize of a lifetime: a six-month, all inclusive blogging trip around the world to a minimum of 25 international destinations and a $50,000 (USD) cash prize upon their return. The competition is in partnership with a series of international associates including Hotels.com, Travelex and Viator, opening on 28th January and closing on 31st March 2013. Ben Southall, winner of Tourism Queensland’s ‘Best Job In The World’ will preside over the entrants as guest judge. 

The blogging trip of a lifetime: The winners will spend six months traveling the world blogging, meeting the locals and taking part in challenges in each location – all expenses paid. The challenges will be wide and varied, covering everything from visiting a landmark to tasting a local delicacy and staying with a family to an adrenaline pumping activity. The winner gets to create their own six-month itinerary and will blog for My Destination throughout the trip, keeping the people back home and around the world up to date on their adventures.

The prize money: Upon completion of all the challenges and the blogging tasks assigned throughout the six-month trip, a $50,000 prize will be awarded to the winner to spend on anything they want – paying off that student loan, starting a business or buying a home.

How to apply: It’s very straightforward to apply to win.

Step one: Applicants must create a video application in English no longer than three minutes in length describing their favorite destination around the world – whether that’s the city they live, their best holiday or the place they have always wanted to travel.

Step two: Upload video together with a completed application form and travel blog-style entry to www.mydestination.com/bbb. The video and blog entry can be about two different locations in order to showcase creativity and diversity.

Ten candidates will make it through to the voting shortlist (five chosen by My Destination and five selected by the world) and then the final round of voting will open.

Entry dates: 
• 28th January – competition opens
• 31st March – applications close
• 12th April – top ten announced and final round of voting opens
• 26th April – top three finalist chosen
• 7th May – final winner announced
• 8th June – the trip of a lifetime begins

  3. I so wish I could do this!! But it’s not enough money to buy me out of my service obligation, sadly. My adventuring is going to be at the whim of Uncle Sam for a few more years.

        • Actually guys here is our official response regarding whether you are allowed to bring your spouse or partner…to sum it up you don’t have to leave them at home!

          Will I be travelling solo?

          Yes and no. The trip itself can be solo, but in each destination you will have the opportunity to spend time with our local experts on the ground. And of course, you’re bound to make friends en route. You will also have the full support of the My Destination team at HQ for the duration of your trip.

          If you absolutely want your partner, friend, family member or boss(!) to travel with you then we might be able to make this possible. However, there’ll be some conditions. His/Her cost of flights must come from the $50,000USD final cash prize money. Accommodation is something that we’ll throw in free of charge (we’re generous, right?). The activities at each chosen destination, however, won’t automatically be offered to your travelling partner – they will need to fund those themselves; and the same applies for other expenses such as food, drinks, local transport, and travel insurance. The bottom line is that we’ll be flexible in order to accommodate your travelling companion, but in return we expect some flexibility from you as the winner. Sounds fair?

  33. This is incredible. I am going to apply. I don’t know if the curly adventures are enough, but I will do try. I just wish I was good at making videos. And had good software for that. Hmmm. I will try anyways. perhaps i movie can help me out somehow.

  42. I am so tempted. The purpose of my blog is to photograph life and their events through the lens of my camera during my retirement years. This would be an adventure of a lifetime. Africa, Australia, China and Thailand, the many cultural diversities would be amazing to document. I am praying about this opportunity. Thanks for sharing.

  43. This contest will be on my bucket list someday. Gotta favorite it and hope they do it as a yearly offer….I am not sure how people could afford to do this unless of course they actually won the prize. :)
